Trudee's Story on McIntosh Applesauce
This was a fall classic where I spent my young childhood in upstate New York. When my family moved to Arizona, it because much harder to find McIntosh apples, but no other apple did the trick for me and my applesauce craving! Once I moved to the Sacramento area, I discovered Apple Hill and found McIntosh there in late September and October. I was thrilled! I've also found New York and Canadian McIntosh apples at Sprouts, Safeway, and Nugget. They foam up and break down perfectly for applesauce and have a great tart taste.
Ingredients:
6 McIntosh apples
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup white sugar
1/4 brown sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
Recipe Procedure:
1. Peel, core, and quarter the apples. Then cut each quarter in half.
2. Place apples and water in a saucepan and cook on high until it simmers, then reduce to low. Stir occasionally.
3. Once the apples are soft and broken down to your liking, add the sugar and spices. Mix well and removed from heat. Enjoy hot or chilled!
*If you like your applesauce smooth, feel free to blend to the desired smoothness.*
