Recreational Water Illness (RWI)

Providing healthy and safe pool water is essential in preventing the spread of water borne illnesses

Adequate chemicals and proper maintenance is the driving factor to ensure safety. When standards are not met and proper care and treatment is not provided to the pool system, recreational water illnesses may occur. Some RWI include but are not limited to Giardia, Cryptosporidium, Swimmers Ear, Legionella, Hot tub rash and many more. Visit Centers for Disease Control (CDC) website to learn more about the various RWIs and how to prevent them.

If you believe you have contracted a RWI with one of the campus pools, please file a complaint with Environmental Health & Safety at the earliest so a thorough investigation can take place.
