How long have you worked at UC Davis?

I have worked at UC Davis for 8 years.

Why did you become a wellness ambassador?

I signed up to be a Wellness Ambassador when I was still at UCDH. I continue to hear of the different programs and services so I wanted to make it official and be able to share it to my division. I continued on when I transferred to campus in my current role.

How long have you been a wellness ambassador?

I believe it's been 5 years.

What has been the most rewarding or positive about your experience thus far?

The most rewarding is knowing that I'm able to help others in becoming more active physically, mentally, and socially. I believe that the activities contribute to the improved morale of the individuals and the teams.

What are some challenges you face as a wellness ambassador?

The ongoing challenge of being a Wellness Ambassador is the budget. This year, we applied for the Wellness Grant for the first time (crossing our fingers). Currently, the biggest challenge is to develop activities that are conducive to remote work.

What is one piece of advice you would like to share with new wellness ambassadors?

Don't be shy with your ideas. If you have the ear of a leader, why not share your thoughts. You'd be amazed how supportive they are of wellness activities.

Staff and Faculty Health and Well-being aims to build an environment that makes the healthier choice the easier one, while providing staff and faculty with the required support to make UC Davis the healthiest community. How do you feel you have contributed to our mission?

I feel like I've contributed to that mission by getting the word out. Our department website is updated with all the wellness events for the month. I let my managers and supervisors know of them through our biweekly update. I also share them with the individual that creates our monthly newsletter. I also try to attend the events as much as I can so I am honestly practicing what I'm preaching.

What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

I love being outdoors like hiking or running. More recently, I've been trying new and healthier recipes.
