EH&S Director Plotkin Accepts New Role at UCLA

UC Davis Environmental Health & Safety Director, Curtis Plotkin, has accepted the role of Assistant Vice Chancellor for Environment, Health & Safety at UCLA. Curtis’ last day at UC Davis will be July 22 and a recruitment to fill his position will be launched immediately.

Curtis joined UC Davis in 2015, from UC Riverside, stepping into an EH&S director position that was vacant for a while, and his challenge was to improve all our safety programs, partnerships, and regulatory requirements.

First UC Davis Laboratory Safety 201: Application class!

In May, the School of Veterinary Medicine and the Laboratory Safety Review program collaborated on a first-of-its-kind on this campus, hands-on laboratory safety class. The class was divided into two sections. The first part took place in a lecture room and focused on documentation and training. The second part took place in a laboratory where common violations such as missing labeling, improper waste disposal and improper chemical segregation were staged.

Welcome Kristina Zumstein!

Kristina is the newest member of the Laboratory Safety Review program at Safety Services. She will take over the role of Laboratory Safety Professional (LSP) for the College of Biological Sciences and half of the School of Medicine. John Lomas currently holds that position and he will be retiring at the end of June 2022.  

Hamid Fonooni Elected as ABET President

ABET announced those who have been elected to serve as its 2022-2023 officers in a press release at the end of March, revealing that Hamid Fonooni has been selected as its 2022-2023 president-elect.
