Do you know what to do if you receive a Bomb Threat?
As we prioritize the safety and well-being of our campus, it is essential to remain vigilant and prepared for any potential emergencies. This month, we want to address a critical topic: how to respond to a bomb threat over the phone. While such incidents are rare, it's our responsibility to be ready and know what to do.
First off, stay as calm as you can. Keep the caller on the line and write down the caller's voice characteristics, any background noises, and any information about the bomb itself, such as its location or when it's set to detonate. If there’s an opportunity to do so, write a quick note asking a co-worker to call 9-1-1. Refer to the UC Davis Bomb Threat checklist for what questions to ask. Do not hang up the phone, even after the call has completed.
Remember, your safety is our top priority. Being vigilant and knowing how to respond in such situations can make a significant difference in keeping our campus secure. Be aware of your surroundings and report suspicious activity, items, and packages. If you see something, say something!
