California Health and Safety Code, Section 25915.2 requires that all UC Davis employees receive annual notification regarding the presence of asbestos in campus buildings constructed prior to 1979.
Building occupants should be aware that asbestos may be found in the following materials:
- Acoustical panels
- Asphalt floor tiles
- Ceiling tiles
- Chalkboards
- Fire proofing
- Fume hood insulation
- Glazing compound
- Gypsum board joint compound
- Laboratory bench tops
- Linoleum
- Oven gaskets
- Plaster
- Stucco
- Textured paints
- Transite shingles
- Vinyl asbestos tiles
- Vinyl asbestos tile mastic
The presence of asbestos does not mean you have been exposed
Exposure results when friable (i.e., easily crumbled) asbestos particles are inhaled or ingested. Asbestos can become friable when material containing asbestos is drilled, sanded or disturbed by remodeling or demolition work. Intact, bonded, sealed or undisturbed asbestos does not pose a hazard.
