Annual Safety Inspections for All University Vehicles
Annual safety inspections are required for all University Vehicles in accordance with Policy 300-30 and BFB-BUS-46.
Beginning in May 2026, all UC Davis vehicles — both Department-Controlled Vehicles (DCVs) and Fleet-leased vehicles — must be inspected annually by Fleet Services.
Inspection Overview
Safety inspections will vary by vehicle but, at a minimum, include:
- Engine and drivetrain
- Steering and suspension
- Lighting
- Brakes
- Tires
- Wheels and bearings
Fleet Services will:
- Send inspection reminders on Monday mornings, 30 days prior to the inspection due date
- Centrally manage and track all required safety inspections and records
Vehicles that do not meet safety standards will require corrective action before being returned to service.
University Vehicles Requiring Inspection
- All on-road vehicles
- Trailers
The following are excluded:
- Boats
- Off-road agricultural equipment
- Golf carts
- Unitrans vehicles, as they report safety inspections directly to the California Highway Patrol and Risk Management.
