
UC Davis Awarded Gold Recognition in AHA Scorecard
UC Davis has been awarded Gold Recognition in the Well-being Works Better scorecard from the American Heart Association.
UC Davis has been awarded Gold Recognition in the Well-being Works Better scorecard from the American Heart Association for the second year in a row. The Staff and Faculty Health and Well-being team completed the scorecard on behalf of UC Davis, UC Davis Health and Remote Sites.
The American Heart Association’s Well-being Works Better scorecard provides employers with science-backed guidance to foster and evolve a healthy work culture that supports employees’ well-being. Organizations can earn a recognition level of Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum based on their adherence to the Association’s recommended practices in areas such as health equity, burnout prevention, compensation and benefits, and more. Achieving Gold Recognition highlights UC Davis' commitment to promoting and sustaining a healthy work culture that empowers all employees to reach their full potential.
The Well-being Works Better scorecard celebrates UC Davis and UC Davis Health’s impactful work in several initiatives and programs, including:
- The Smoke, Tobacco and Vape Free policy
- The Wellness Ambassador Program
- Providing access to a free employee assistance program that covers mental health counseling and connects employees to mental health care through the Academic and Staff Assistance Program (ASAP)
- Diversity, Equity and Inclusion trainings, policies and resources

“UC Davis has been participating in the Well-being Works Better scorecard since 2019,” shares Stacey Brezing, Director of Staff and Faculty Health and Well-being. “We are so grateful to our collaborators and partners across UC Davis and UC Davis Health who provide valuable programs and resources that support our employees. Their contributions are reflected in our Gold Recognition,” Brezing continued. Partners include the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Human Resources units of Talent Acquisition, WorkLife, and the Academic and Staff Assistance Program, the Clinician Health and Well-being program, the Office of Sustainability on both campuses, and more.
UC Davis’ score reflects the strength of our well-being offerings and leadership among educational institutions thanks to programs like:
- Communications: Strategic communications to support well-being
- Health Equity: Organizational policies and practices to build and champion equity in the workplace
- Reporting outcomes: The measurement and evaluation of health and well-being programs
The American Heart Association’s Well-being Works Better is a curated solution for fostering and evolving a healthy work culture while supporting employees’ health—mind, heart and body. The Scorecard helps leaders assess their health and well-being strategy based on leading best practices.
