Air Quality Program

EH&S provides specialized services in the area of environmental protection. EH&S often teams with other campus units, such as Design and Construction Management (DCM), Facilities Management, Utilities, etc., to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and good environmental practices. UC Davis’ Air Quality Program assists campus in maintaining regulatory compliance with federal, state and local air quality regulations. One of the main services provided by the program is to support campus units with the air quality permitting process for new and modified air emission sources (e.g. emergency generator, boilers, engines, etc.).

Air Permitting Process for new campus equipment such as internal combustion engines, emergency generators, boilers, etc.

Contact EH&S to determine if a permit is necessary;
EH&S performs regulatory review of source specifications;
EH&S prepares permit application package;
EH&S will submit permit application package to the Air Quality Management District (AQMD);
AQMD review and comment period;
EH&S will work with the AQMD to answer any remaining questions on proposed sources;
AQMD issues Authority to Construct (ATC) permit. ATC allows construction and/or installation of source to commence;
AQMD Initial Source Inspection will be arranged through EH&S; and
AQMD issues Permit to Operate (PTO) for source.
