Meet Steve Libertini, New SOM Safety Officer

Safety Services is excited to welcome Steve Libertini in his new role as the School Of Medicine's Safety Officer for the Sacramento campus

Steve is a proud UC Davis alumnus with a passion for health and safety and a Bachelor’s of Science in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. He's worked as a Lab Manager in several labs on campus, including Biosafety Level 3 facilities, and has experience researching cancer, coccidioidomycosis (valley fever), and craniosynostosis (a birth defect).

Steve also holds a certificate in Workplace Health & Safety from UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education.

As Safety Officer, Steve plans to work with researchers and laboratory personnel to improve their initial hazard recognition, so they can take steps that help keep everyone safe. This includes helping laboratories better understand which PPE is best suited to protect them against the hazardous chemicals they use.

When he’s not in the lab, Steve spends his free time with his wife and two kids. He likes to be outside and work with his hands, usually out hiking, boating, woodworking, and doing projects to remodel his home.
