Injury Prevention

We provide the following Injury & Illness Prevention services:

  • Create and deliver customized departmental and campuswide injury prevention training,
  • Perform hazard assessments to establish safety equipment options,
  • Assist departments in purchasing, fabricating new (esp. material handling) or modifying existing or modification of existing equipment,
  • Assisting with access & application for Be Smart About Safety injury prevention funds,
  • Provide trial & test equipment options for reducing injury risk,
  • Assess personal protective equipment needs and provide recommendations,
  • Provide departments statistical assessments of past injuries & illnesses,
  • Review ongoing injuries & illnesses with Departmental safety management, WC, and OH medical treatment personnel,
  • Conduct ergonomic assessments for development of unique solutions,
  • Develop safe practices & procedures in compliance with Cal OSHA (i.e. fall protection, electrical safety) and best management practices
  • Review and modify departmental IIPP’s

    • FISCAL YEAR 2009-2010 = 718 YTD 
    • FISCAL YEAR 2008-2009 = 869 YTD (July 1st through June 30th)
    • 17.3 % reduction YTD
    • 41 injuries in June 2010
    • 73 injuries in June 2009
    • 44% reduction
