Be Smart About Safety (BSAS)

 

THE NEW PROGRAM FOR 2008-2009!

The UC Davis Be Smart About Safety Program is an “injury prevention” funding program.

  • 100% funding available for approved non-office type equipment (i.e hand trucks, hoists, etc.).
  • A 50% matching program (up to $500/employee) available for work station equipment to prevent workplace injuries, illnesses, and environmental incidents (keyboards, mouse, document holders, etc.).

Allowable Uses for Be Smart About Safety Funds

  • Correct Safety Deficiencies
  • Initiate New Safety Programs
  • Comply with New Safety Regulations
  • Provide Safety Training/Development
  • Purchase Safety Equipment & Supplies
  • Address Employee & Property Security Concerns
  • Employee(s)/Consultant(s)

 

Examples of Be Smart About Safety Fund Uses

  • Funding safety-wellness related positions

  • Web-Based Training Development

  • Enhance Electrical Safety Program

  • Wellness/Safety Fair

  • Wellness Program

  • Ergonomics Laboratory

  • Matching Funds for Ergonomic Equipment Purchase

  • Redesign Gas Cylinder Delivery Truck

  • Lifting Team

  • Ergonomics – Housing Services

 

Funds cannot be used for the following:

  • Capitol improvement projects or post-start up building expenses

  • Enhancement to academic or vocational instruction

  • Correction of deferred maintenance deficiencies

  • Replacement of stock items for on-going programs (i.e. ear plugs, safety glasses, or other routine PPE) that are required by law.

  • Hiring of career staff or provide salaries for existing positions

  • The paying of staff wages or travel expense for training

  • Installation, set-up, or building modifications for equipment purchases
