Chicken Anesthetic and Analgesic drug dosages

 

  DOSE ROUTE FREQUENCY REFERENCE NOTES
           
PREMEDICATION          
Atropine 0.01-0.02 mg/kg IV
Glycopyrolate 0.01 mg/kg SC
Acepromazine 10 mg/kg IM as an adjunct to anesthesia
Diazepam 0.1-0.5 mg/kg IM as an adjunct to anesthesia
Midazolam 6 mg/kg IM
           
ANESTHETICS          
Ketamine 10-50 mg/kg IM best given with a sedative
Telazol 10-50 mg/kg IM
Propofol 10 mg/kg IV
Isoflurane, Halothane to effect inhalation
           
OPIOIDS          
Buprenorphine 0.05 mg/kg  SC, IM q. 8-12 hrs
Butorphanol 1-3 mg/kg SC, IM
           
NON-OPIOIDS          
Xylazine 1-4 mg/kg SC, IM
Flunixin 1-10 mg/kg IM q. 24 hrs not to exceed 5 days
Carprofen 2-4 mg/kg PO, SC q. 12 hrs 36
Meloxicam 0.1 mg/kg PO q. 24 hrs 36
           
ANESTHETIC ANTAGONIST          
Naloxone 0.015-0.04 mg/kg IV, IM reverses opioids
Yohimbine 0.1-0.4 mg/kg IV reverses xylazine
